Strand Unit - Cycling
As part of the above P.E. strand, 3rd class are taking part in a cycling programme called Cycle Sense.
Cycle Sense provides cycle training in County Cork, Cork City and County Kerry. Cycle Sense, based in Skibbereen, West Cork, began cycle training in 2007. They have three instructors, Katie Mann, Ruth Bullough and Karl Watkins. All are approved instructors for Cycle Right, the Irish National Standard for cycle training and Cycling Ireland CORE coaches. Katie also completed the British National Standard Bikeability training with BikeRight in Manchester. They are all Garda vetted, have trained in first aid and disability inclusion.
As parents and cyclists Katie, Ruth and Karl are aware of the need to give children the chance to learn skills to cycle safely on today’s roads. Road safety training is for children and adults from complete beginners to competent cyclists.
This programme is in conjunction with Kerry Sports Partnership.
